A new study conducted by ABI Research has found that 66% of mobile phone accessory revenues come from aftermarket sales. This is expected to grow even more and mobile phone makers move accessories out of the box and onto store shelves.

That means that we will get less with our phones in the future when we buy them new. According to the research firm, the most popular aftermarket accessories for mobile phones are memory cards and protective silicone cases.
The increase in the sales of cases are reportedly spurred by the higher cost of many smartphones popular on the market today. With smartphones often costing users $200 or more, the user tends to take better care of it. Protecting phones is reported to be even more important in emerging markets where users expect to sell their phone when upgrading to a new device.
