Manufacturers take note: here’s one surefire way to increase the average selling price (ASP) of your cellphones.  Encrust the damn things with 400 diamonds, courtesy of Tiffany’s, and slap a 10 million Yen ($94,000) price tag on them.  Japanese carrier Softbank Mobile are doing just that, collaborating with the famed jeweller in the hope that their seriously eye-catching handset will also grab headlines and profits.

A total of 20 carats grace the otherwise pretty dull looking handset, and while there are no details on what functionality you can expect, it’s probably beside the point.  Something like this is to be seen using - I mean, why would you want Bluetooth, if it just means you can leave the cellphone in your bag!

Of course, the best thing is that anyone with a bit of patience and a bag of far-cheaper self-adhesive crystals could recreate the look.  Yes, you wouldn’t be able to boast about your $94k cellphone, but at least you could use it without being trailed by a couple of burly security guards.
