Garmin and AT&T have teamed up to offer a new GPS device that has connectivity to the internet provided by AT&T. The new PND is called the nuvi 1690. AT&T will be the exclusive wireless provider and the navigation device has a built-in AT&T modem.

We know there are lots of new handsets coming between now and next year. Google has promised as many as 20 new Android devices are coming, and some of them are bound to land on AT&T's network.

I have played with some phones from GPS makers before and came away not particularly impressed with how the phones operated. When I first heard about the Garmin Nuvifone, I eyed it skeptically. As it turned out the device has yet to hit the market, but we finally have an ETA on it.

Garmin is a well known brand that makes some of the better GPS devices on the market. The company is set to launch new mobile phones with GPS as a feature front and center called the Nuvifone. The launch was expected last year but delays have kept that from happening.

This week started with the rumor that Sony Ericsson will be announcing its Hikaru Walkman phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, offering 8GB of internal storage and 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus. The latest rumor also suggests that the official announcement of Nokia E75 also will be held Mobile World Congress on the 16th.

Garmin and Asus today announced two nuvifones, M20 and G60 and will will show off them at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Garmin-Asus is a co-branded partnership with Garmin and Asus parent ASUSTek Computer.

Garmin appear to have let slip pricing for the upcoming nuvifone on AT&T. According to an online survey, gauging customer interest in the combination GPS/HSDPA/touchscreen handset, AT&T are considering a price of $499.99 with a two-year contract, together with a mandatory $19.99 unlimited data & navigation plan and a standard voice tariff.
