When ASUS are pushing out Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro 320 x 320 touchscreen smartphones with HSDPA, GPS, WiFi and a 3-megapixel camera, it hardly seems surprising that anticipation for Palm’s upcoming WM Treo isn’t that hot. The ASUS m536 manages to be slimmer than the Treo 750v (just 13.9mm) despite blowing it away feature-wise, and has a clever dual-purpose fingerprint reader that not only offers biometric security but works as a five-way navigation control too.

The m536 is triband UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900/2100) and triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900), and along with the main autofocus camera there’s a front-facing VGA camera for video calls. Sadly for would-be US owners the lack of friendly frequencies means you’ll have to wait to see if ASUS release a quadband GSM version.

Even if the ASUS is thinner and with much better specs, I’d rather get the 750v which looks much better to the eyes, with its button distribution and bigger screen filling the phone’s three sides.
Realistically, I’d buy neither and wait for the Xperia X1 or HTC Dream.
Asus will give tough time to Palm. Palm is in deep water now a days due to lack of innovation.
