AT&T logoIt’s all go at AT&T at the moment – after announcing that they had two-million iPhone subscribers by the end of 2007, promising free WiFi to all their broadband customers and a potential new mobile TV service about to hit the airwaves, we probably shouldn’t be surprised that they’ve managed above-expected wireless growth in Q4, gaining 2.7m net new wireless subscribers.

The news came amid concerns that economic weakness in the US and a slowing housing market would impact wireless business, and although AT&T’s share prices still dropped – down 2-percent to $35.78 – it was enough to convince analysts to take a glass-half-full attitude:

“It was a solid quarter certainly.  In this type of market, any reiteration of guidance has to be viewed positively” Chris King, analyst, Stifel Nicolaus

Fourth-quarter profits were given as $3.1bn, up from $1.9bn a year ago, and AT&T predict 2008 wireless service growth in the mid-teens.

  1. AT&T also reported that they scored 2m iPhone customers in 2007. If that’s the case, there are a ton of “unlocked” or jailbroken iPhone floating around out there if Apple’s report of 4M total iPhone sold is to be correct.
