Shortly after the quickstart guides for the Vu Mobile TV flagship come pricing plan details for AT&T’s media service itself. According to the Boy Genius’ sources at the carrier, the AT&T Mobile TV service - MediaFLO by any other name - will officially launch on May 4th, and presumably the LG Vu and Samsung Access will appear at the same time. Pricing will start at $13 a month and rise to $30 for ten channels.
The $13 plan gets you four channels - Fox Mobile, CBS Mobile, NBC, and NBC News - while for $15 a month you can add Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, CNN Mobile and ESPN to that. Beyond that it’s a big jump to the $30 package, which consists of all nine of those channels, Media Net, Cellular Video and an exclusive Sony Pictures channel. It’s unclear as yet what sort of content Sony will be providing, though a fair assumption would be a selection of films.
Both the Access and the Vu will have parental controls, and since this is broadcast TV not streamed over a data connection it means that, signal permitting, there’ll be no pauses or buffering to interrupt the show. Apparently watching TV is equivalent in battery terms to having an active voice call going.
