As expected, today sees the launch of the WiFi and GPS toting BlackBerry 8820 on T-Mobile USA. Being positioned as ideal for anybody who wants both push-email and access to T-Mobile’s VoIP service HotSpot@Home, the handset also supports MyFaves. What it doesn’t have is a camera, primarily to accommodate those people whose employers get nervous about escaping trade secrets, but there’s still a microSD slot to load up with music for when you’re power-walking into the office.

Of course, we’re still waiting for a 3G BlackBerry so for now you’ll have to make do with GPRS/EDGE (or WiFi when you’re around an 802.11g signal); Bluetooth, voice activated dialling and a speakerphone round out the rest of the specs.
Nothing outstanding, then, unless you’ve already invested in HotSpot@Home, are desperate for a full QWERTY keyboard and have a tendency to get lost, but it’s a relief to see a new BlackBerry that isn’t a Pearl.
The 8820 should be available in stores from today.
