Lucky old Engadget have some brand new images of the upcoming BlackBerry 9000-series smartphone, showing RIM’s latest efforts in updating the OS design. The hardware matches up to the leaked image we first saw a while ago, managing to be restrained as well as purposefully attractive, while the all-important guts of the handset have been brought bang up to date with WiFi and HSDPA. Check out the video of the GUI and menu animations after the cut!

Of course, all the slick animation in the world won’t sell handsets if they’re not in the stores, and the latest rumor is that RIM won’t get the 9000-series out of the door until August. By that time the 3G iPhone may well have launched, putting RIM at a serious disadvantage.
