RIM could not only be preparing the HSDPA 9000-series smartphone but also working on a 9100-series handset, with as yet unknown capabilities.  BGR’s Jibi has been patient (and thorough) enough to trawl through a BlackBerry theme file and spotted not only confirmation of the 9000 but a mention of the previously-unheard-of 9100-series of handsets.

The 9100-series is mentioned at multiple points in the file, and is treated separately from the 9000-series.  It also shows up under a carrier-specific category, namely Vodafone, though of course which region of the network’s business is not specified.  Meanwhile, the 9000-series is confirmed for AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as either Vodafone or DoCoMo.

There’s also confirmation of the 480 x 320 display resolution of the 9000-series, and the handset is mentioned with regards to AT&T’s WiFi hotspots.

I wonder when RIM will start deliberately making up fake new model numbers and sticking them in these files to confuse the Boy Genius?
