Blackberry Enterprise Server Isn’t Secure

Worth Reading?

YesNo

The Blackberry Attachment Service and PDF files are causing serious problems. Research in Motion (RIM) has noted a security issue within these services on the Blackberry Enterprise Server, that allowed hackers to penetrate the system with “malicious” code distributed through PDFs.

This is bad news, and until it’s fixed, users are asked that they visit RIM’s website in order to disable their PDF file function.

This problem was ranked a 9 out of 10, illustrating nearly complete vulnerability to the system. The problem affects Blackberry Unite!, and versions 4.1 SP3 through 4.1 SP5 of the Blackberry Enterprise Server.  RIM is currently working on a fix, but for now, just disable your PDF distiller. It’s better to be safe than sorry, in this case.
