BlackBerry Storm 9530 and Thunder are same phone on different carriers

RIM has been in the news a lot in the past few days, mostly for their recently launched BlackBerry Bold, but now there’s quite a bit of talk about the BlackBerry Storm 9530. And though it will most likely be released on Verizon in October, you can also expect to see it on other carriers as the BlackBerry Thunder.

When the device is released on Vodafone and Rogers, it will be called the BlackBerry Thunder, not the Storm. Interesting. I’ve heard of a change in model number for different carriers but not whole name changes!

The leaked packaging above highlights some of the features we can expect to see on the Storm/Thunder including a 8GB microSD, 3.5mm headset jack, pre-installed SIM card and more. Notably absent, however, is Wi-Fi capability.
