BlackBerry Storm return rate as high as 50 percent?

The Boy Genius Report has been getting several reports on the return rates of the epic failure the Blackberry Storm from very reliable sources.  The return rates were very surprising overall, but we can not say that we were surprised, in fact it is very comical.

The return rate is being reported from 35 to 50 percent in some markets. It is absolutely absurd how high this number is! With those numbers we certainly hope RIM did not put all their eggs in one basket, there is a lot of marketing and effort going into this handset. This is still just a rumor for now, but it almost makes sense.

Verizon Wireless had this to say, “The Storm has the lowest return rate of any of our PDAs and at this point in its life cycle, it has the lowest return rate of any PDA we currently sell.” We want to know what our readers who have gotten their hands on the BlackBerry Storm think. We were not fans, but we don’t speak for an entire population, after all we might be a little bias who knows.

I am a little disappointed at the extensive negativity related to the storm; I have been more than happy with it. I use the Pearl and my typing speed has increased, as has the accuracy; while I do not notice a difference in speed for pages to load in the browser, the browser is much more usable; sound for calls and music seems fine for a mobile device; battery life is about what I expected – obviously less than when the device is used primarily as a phone; e-mail as with all Blackberries is terrific. The only slight “bug” that I have come across is sometimes when making a call, I get a message about an application being terminated – only happened twice thus far. Overall, I am getting more out of the Storm that I expected.

i returned mine in less than a week, even after the software update. not ideal if you are a heavy text and email user. the keys toward the corner of the screen are much harder to press than the ones in the middle of the screen, the battery life is horrible, and you have to make sure you correctly close out of every screen or it will stay running in the background slowing you up even more. i went running back to my curve.

I was just in our local Verizon store today, and asked them about the return rate. I know very well some of the employees and trust what they say. Their response was only 1 Storm has been returned. I know they have sold over 30 units…. do the math.

I think we sometimes forget that any kind of new electronic device, be it a Smatphone/PDA, gaming console, etc., will have bugs in the first few months of release. Give it another few more months and the return rate will be less.

I have returned my storm after a week. I am extremely disappointed by many factors but most of all speed, reliability and software. In my opinion they should have not allowed to sell an unfinished product. Finally I hate the screen. I am a Blackberry fan but when it comes to touch screen the Iphone is 10.000 better than the Storm. Shame…..

I bought my Storm during the presale period, and returned it within a week! As a Blackberry customer who has had Blackberrys since they first created them, I was shocked and highly disappointed in the Storm. Although I had never cared for the iPhone, I decided to purchase one after returning my Storm. I am now truly converted! I adore my iPhone and want to thank the Storm for helping me discover how truly superior the iPhone is to the Storm!

The phone has numerous downs, for example the battery life is poor….. also for some reason mine stops charging when it gets to 50%….. closing apps is a pain in the ass too. Another thing that can annoy is the quirty keyboard because when u want to type in numbers after you have clicked one, it goes back to letters and you must keep going back and forth….. sometimes it doesnt let me receive texts….. sometimes it crashes (ive had the thing 3 weeks) BLACKBERRY STORM YOU SUCK!
