It’s not that my mom & dad don’t trust me, it’s just that there are millions of strange people out there who might get up to mischief with me on the phone. That’s their excuse for always making me talk to friends on speakerphone so they can supervise the conversations, and now it’ll be even easier with Callpod’s Phoenix Bluetooth headset hub. The full-duplex device can hook up to five Bluetooth headsets up to a single PSTN or Skype phonecall and, if you use their Dragon headset, it boasts a frankly unbelievable range of 300,000+ sq.ft.

Of course, if you don’t have the Dragon headsets then it’ll still work with any others you might have lying around, you’ll just miss out on that range and the push-to-talk functionality. It’s battery powered, with a full charge lasting ten hours, and the interface is a straightforward mixture of two buttons (one for power and one for pairing) and eight LEDs (five for headset status, one each for phone, power and pairing).
Despite Callpod’s site claiming the Phoenix would be available in December 2007, it doesn’t appear to have hit the market yet; price is similarly unannounced. Still, it won a 2008 CES Innovations award, so hopefully that’s a good sign that it’s not vaporware.
