Casio TFT LCD display has super high resolution

Wow, that sure is pretty. That was my first thought when I found out about Casio’s latest move into display technology. Their 2-inch Si TFT LCD display packs in a whopping 960 x 540 resolution. Yeah, you read that correctly.

TFT is amorphous silicon thin-film transistor and was based on the Casio’s original idea for a high-rez display, the HAST, or hyper-amorphous silicon thin-film transistor. This allows for a higher aperture ratio and a higher resolution, despite the display’s small size.

Transmissive light loss has been greatly reduced because of the multi-layered wiring adopted for transistors. Light aperture is maintained here, and it’s really pretty amazing. I mean, look at it! I’m looking forward to when this tech is adopted into displays we can, you know, actually buy.
