CDMA HTC Touch hacked for Rev. A and GPS

The CDMA version of the HTC Touch has been hacked by the Windows Mobile community. In light of the Alltel HTC Touch being upgraded to Rev. A, it was only a matter of time before they community busted this thing wide open. Not only has Rev. A been unlocked, but the GPS in the device has been unlocked for use as well, thanks to some patches gained from the unlocking of the Mogul’s GPS when it saw it’s update.

The update comes as great news for owners of the HTC Touch on Sprint, Verizon, and Alltel. The hack is available for use now. A step by step guide for the hack can be found here. As always with these kind of things, you have got to be careful, as this is on the bleeding edge of Windows Mobile hacking. The step by step makes it seem pretty easy though, just again be cautious.

PHONE Magazine is going to be testing this walk through, and will be giving a report shortly. Check back for our expert thoughts, tips and opinions on the hack. Until then, have any of you taken the plunge? If you do, be certain to let us know how it went.

Got GPS working on my touch from Alltel however it just isnt very reliable it drops out all the time and loosing the sats. I am still exploring this to see if I can modify some settings to make it more reliable.

Got the GPS working but very weak… has problem locking on to many sats which normally throws location off by several 10ths of a mile.

    Hi,
Some posts claimed that the Alltel phone was loosing sat fixes with the GPS, but Sprint owners claimed that theirs worked great! Has anyone tried (or is it possible) to unlock a Sprint phone and try the GPS on Alltel to see if its a hardware issue or just a network issue? Thanks

Did anyone try this with a Verizon HTC Touch? Success?

  11. Steph says:

I am a US Cellular customer considering the HTC touch and the LG Tritan. I would prefer an iPhone, but can’t get service for one in my area.

    Two questions…
    1. Do I need internet service to use the GPS on the phones (guessing I do!) and do they have a voice or do I have to try to stare at the map while I drive?

    2. Does anyone know if either of these phones is compatible with Mac’s? For photos, etc.

    Thanks lots!
    Steph
