Atlanta-based Cox Communications, the third largest cable provider in the United States, has announced plans to launch its own cellular network. The development seems to have been a long time coming.

The news first hit the media waves last year around October. The company now, is reaffirming the commitment to do so by the end of 2009. Though the movement to the cellular world, Cox Communications is likely to be utilizing the potion won of the 700MHz auction. The slice estimated to be worth around $300 million.
Cox Communications VP of the wireless division, Stephen Bye said that the network will offer the company the chance to offer bundled televisions, wireless and broadband services. Possible implementation of services in the future may include an app store and burgeoning the mobile video market. This to be able to compete with “what’s already out there.”
