Nokia’s 3110 Evolve might look a little out of place among the high-spec smartphones we usually feature on PHONE Mag, but the handset is perhaps more important than anything from HTC’s new range or Vodafone’s leaked roadmap. Created by the Finnish company as an example of how conscientious design can preserve style and function as well as maintain eco-credentials, the 3110 and its packaging is made predominantly from recycled materials.

The casing is crafted from bio-materials comprising over 50-percent recycled plastics, the packaging is smaller and made from 60-percent recycled material, and the charger Nokia supply is the company’s most energy efficient to date, requiring 94-percent less power than the Energy Star requirements and automatically shutting off when the phone is unplugged.
It’s easy to make an example of an environmentally-conscious cellphone; what takes real thought is then bringing it to market, and Nokia deserves some kudos for doing it.
