Trimble, who provide GPS software downloads to compatible handsets, have announced that their AllSport, Geocache Navigator and Trimble Outdoors titles are now available for CDMA-based BlackBerry handsets as well as GSM versions. That means that cellphones such as the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and the Pearl 8130, available from Verizon Wireless and Sprint, now have GPS options beyond what’s available through their carrier.
The three titles seem to cover the current main areas of GPS interest: AllSport is an exercise and fitness monitoring app, which can track progress in walking, running, cycling and mountain biking, estimate calorie burn, calculate performance stats and store sharable workout routines. Map and route downloads are also available.

Geocache Navigator works in synchrony with geocaching.com, an online treasure-hunt game. Real-time access of their server downloads new maps and targets to locate, while the Navigator software offers compass-based navigation, maps, speed, heading, location, distance, cache descriptions logs and hints (though possibly not in a pirate-style voice).

Finally, Trimble Outdoors is an outdoor trip planning and management tool, where users can plan and share routes online before transferring them to their BlackBerry and follow on-screen maps and waypoints. It supports GPS “bread-crumb” trails, waypoint adding from the handset itself and a digital compass, plus you can capture photos, videos and notes to review later, share online or plot on Google Earth.

Each title is priced at $39.99 per year, or $5.99 monthly subscription, and is available from Handmark

Really informative, CDMA-based BlackBerry handsets along GSM versions.
