Mobile broadband is hotting up in the UK, with Vodafone announcing their HSUPA USB Stick for PCs and Macs and promising download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. The device is apparently smaller than any they’ve made previously, and monthly tariffs start at £25 ($49).

The significant hitch is that currently 7.2Mbps HSUPA is only available in Central London and UK airports, meaning anybody else buying the Stick will be left with HSDPA speeds (assuming they’re even in an area that supports the technology).  If you can get the high-speed signal then you’ll be looking at a max upload speed of 1.44Mbps.

Prices start at £49 ($97) with a new 18-month contract, though obviously you’ll be able to get the Stick free if you sign up to an expensive enough monthly plan; choose the two-year contract and they’ll give you three months free.
