Chi Mei Communications to make their first web-OS smartphone the Palm Pre

As is often the case, companies design the technology although outsource the production. This is again the case for Palm Inc. and the upcoming Pre.

Production by Taiwan based smartphone maker Chi Mei Communications (or CMCS) could start as early as this month. Previously, the company has been making phones for Motorola. The Pre itself will feature a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device will also be equipped with 8 GB of on-board storage, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.

The phone will be available through Sprint with mobile broadband service EVDO Rev. A. The GSM version for Europe and Latin America will have the 3G standard HSDPA. As for a date to set your calendar to, the phone is due in the first half of this year (of which there is only 3 months left of). Chi Mei Communications best get cracking!
