Just this morning it was reported that the BlackBerry Bold was available for pre-order at Best Buy with a $660 price tag, which to most would be outrageous. CompUSA has made that price look rather reasonable offering the phone at a much higher price.

For all the BlackBerry fans out there who are willing to throw their money at anyone who is offering the newest Blackberry, the Bold, have we got a deal for you.CompUSA is offering an unlocked Bold at a staggering $799.99.
For those who just don’t trust themselves with a device that costs that much, you can also purchase an add on extended service plan for $149.98. By now $149.98 looks like nothing, so why not? You don’t want to spend another $799 on a phone because you dropped it. CompUSA is making the Bold available to be shipped today for all of you who simply can’t wait to get your hands on it.

People often want unlocked phones for many reasons - international travel, convenience, the ‘no contract extension required’ concept - and unlocked phones do cost more than off-the-shelf carrier related phones.
While it may be said that they physical components of the Bold have been estimated at $180, there are millions spent on research and development of the software and hardware for the device as well as marketing, carrier subsidies, etc that affect the resale price of the handset.
The phone is beautiful and actually the favorite of many top executives who wanted it as soon as it came out - before it was available in the US even. There is no outrageous markup and profit in this price. You will even find it selling for more online at other places.
