Concept cell phones always make me happy and then a little sad because while they’re cool, they more often than not are never made for production. That being said, au, a cell phone carrier and Yamaha have joined forces to create these music-based handsets. The idea is you can use the phone and then use it as a musical instrument.

There are all sorts of instruments represented here from a phone that has a slide up screen, which then reveals a 10-string guitar, a folding handset that has piano keys in it and a two piece handset with motion sensors built in for some awesome air drumming.

Also shown in the pictures above are a phone that has all sorts of attachments that you can swap out to play different noises from synth to trumpet to harmonica. There’s also one that can be turned into a cube. Not musical, I know, but still pretty cool.
