Open-access lovers, feel free to breathe - after round 17 of bidding on the FCC's 700MHz auction, the Block C reserve price has been exceeded, meaning that a) someone will be walking away with chunks of what many believe to be the premium wireless spectrum in the US, and b) they'll be obliged to allow compatible third-party devices to access their network ...

It might look like a squared-off hockey puck about to be chomped in the jaws of a ruler-monster, but in actual fact this is BlackBerry's Bluetooth Remote Stereo Gateway, showing up for the first time in FCC documentation. About as simple in operation as making a balloon-animal snake, the device will pair with an A2DP-compatible cellphone and stream music from it ...

This opens the door for future Mio models - potentially traditional in-car GPS units ...

With the latest Ofcom news, I find myself wishing that the UK mobile phone regulators could tackle petrol prices in their spare time; they've taken the UK networks to task over SMS message and data charges when users are roaming in Western Europe. Last year EU regulations were pushed through that limited the carriers from charging more than £0.38/minute ($0.76) for ...

After its announcement that it would be fettling the N95 8GB for American 850/1900MHz HSDPA networks, Nokia has received FCC approval for the GPS/WiFi/HSDPA/5-megapixel uberdevice. It looks as though the manufacturer is on course to meet its predicted Q1 2008 release date.

This, forgive me, bland candybar might be Philips' first foray back into the Western European market, after pulling out to concentrate on handsets for Asia. The Philips 192 is intended to be a very basic, entry-level phone - and with the sub-€40 ($59) price to match.
