Motorola is the main purveyor of iDEN after all, so it only makes sense that they release some hot phones on the aging network. With Dan Hesse himself announcing that Nextel would receive an influx of new devices, it only seemed natural that a device like this would find its way into the Nextel stores around the country.

It is a very common practice for carriers to work with a manufacturer to get exclusive deals on new devices. Every one of the national carriers employ this practice. It gives people another reason to switch carriers, and ensures current subscribers renew contracts in order to get that device they have been checking out at the local retailer.
