With the launch of Windows Marketplace, Microsoft released details for developers who would like to create apps for the store. To be created for use with Windows Mobile 6.5, after a little red tape to apply, you are off and developing.

“Bring your best ideas to a broad marketplace. Use familiar development tools and technologies to create global market opportunities,” states the developer website. “Leverage your .NET and Visual Studio development experience and connect with millions of Windows Mobile users worldwide.” A number of resources, events, tips and tools are already available through the Windows Mobile site.
Boasting “key benefits for developers” the opening for the Marketplace does have a few processes in place before you get going. Although developers are able to set their own price for applications, Microsoft will have an ongoing cut of 30% (which really isn’t all that bad) and there is a $99 annual registration fee. This registration allows for 5 applications to be submitted for review. Certification and testing is completed on all apps. Registration is available as a developer from Spring with submissions open later in Summer. I have a few ideas for apps if there are any good developers out there!
