Rumors are coming in today that have the Verizon Droid and HTC Droid Eris getting the Android 2.1 update on January 22. This is firmly in the rumor category and there is no official word from HTC or Verizon on the updates.

The Motorola Opus One may well be the first iDEN handset to run the Android OS. There aren’t many details on the handset to share at this point but the phone looks pretty cool.
The ZiiLabs Trinity smartphone platform has turned up on a video demo showing off its 1080p chops. Creative uses a proprietary connector right now, but could change to miniHDMI.

I just got my update on my phone. Made a video for everyone who is interested in seeing what i looks like . BTW It is much faster
Whats strange is that I have not received the update on my other phone. I wonder how they are doing to updates

I just bought my Motorola Droid yesterday and the woman said that it has been updated to Android 2.1. If your droid has a yellow sticker on the package then it is updated.
I believe you guys are referring to 2.0.1 (I recently received my OTA update as well) not 2.1. The article is speaking on 2.1
I got the droid the first day it came out. Will Verizon not allow me to take my phone there and update it from 2.0.1 to 2.1?
It will most likely be an over the ais update meaning you won’t need to go to the store.
Wrong. the 2.0.1 UPDATE is for the existing Android OS the Droid is currently using – it is supposed to fix a number of bugs, including that infamous camera problem. All Motorola Droids are running Android OS version 2.0 (aka “Donut”).
The confusion is that Google has released Android OS 2.1 ( aka “Flan”) for their debut Nexus One, Google branded smartphone…and has said that the Android 2.1 OS will be making its way to other devices, including the Droid, in future.
The latest anyone has said about the Droid getting an official (not hacked) Android 2.1 OS is “sometime in spring”.
I’m not sure what was so WRONG, but there are several rumors, some even stating they got their info from Verizon, the both the eris and moto droid will receive the android 2.1 update in late January, the 22nd to be exact.
@ Joe D.
actually, 2.0 is referred to as “eclair”
“Donut” was android 1.6, which has never run on droid.
Through my sources, Droids were to ship with either 2.0 or 2.1. 2.0.1 will only be an OTA push. So it’s possible that Droids will be sold with the 2.1 flash prior to it being pushed.
All of you are wrong I have a droid I’m using it now it has 2.0.1 and will be getting 2.1 in january and further updates than nexus one in early/mid spring
Correct the donut was 1.6. driod is on eclair 2.0 or 2.0.1(after Dec 11) Jan 22nd is the date that the Eris and Droid are rumored to be updated to the 2.1 which by the way is still called eclair.
Any update on this? Still patiently waiting on the android 2.1 update or is the 2.0.1 update supposed to fix the dreaded camera problems? Is there even a way to copy and paste on this thing?
Any links to what the 2.0.1 update is going to fix? As well as what improvements the 2.1 OS is going to have?
The 2.0.1 update is already released.
The 2.1 update releases January 22 2010.
Lol, I like how the guy who screams WRONG was so wrong. Anyway to make this simple, original Droids shipped with 2.0, in december they recieved the 2.0.1 update which made it a little faster and fixed an autofocus problem the camera had. It also changed the appearance of the lock screen and a few of the widgits. The rumored update on the 22nd of January will update the phone to 2.1 which is what the Nexus One runs.
Apparently, there is some sort of 2.0.1 OTA being pushed right now. I believe it supposed to fix a problem with the stock Facebook app that comes with the Droid. I havent recieved this update but a lot of people have and have speculated that this may be some sort of preparation for the official 2.1 software update that may be coming soon (hopefully) on or around the 22nd of this month.
Screw this lets all take out droids back and wait for the N1 or the Motoroi. Those phones are way better than the droid and at least the N1 will already have 2.1. The motoroi(motoroloa 2) will have a 8meg camera 8gb of on board memory and no physical keyboard.
man so are we really just a few hours away from getting an update 2.1:)? which means we are going to have live wallpapers and all that cool shit the dumb and ugly nexus one has? haha hell ya and if i dont get the update in exactly um 2 hours and half il break my damn droid lol
Well apparently theirs only one hour till they start thr OTA update, this is so exciting!
yeah. im running a rooted moto droid, with 2.1, im about to revert back to stock, and get this bad boy. lol. crossing my fingers we get it at midnight!
@Raul the Droid would just dodge and break you.
wow…no update…what the hell????
The update will probably start later in the morning not around midnight no use waiting around losing sleep.
It’s still only a rumor at this point!!!
So how will we get the update when it hits. Will the phone auto update? Or from the marketplace?
Hahahahahah you droid-bots, this is just a rumor not a fact.
No update today fools!!!
I don’t care when it comes. Just wondering how the update is received. The update doesn’t include flash so I’m not that excited over it.
Does anyone know if the 2.1 update for Droid is being released today? I haven’t seen anything official..just rumors…
no update today… there is no official release date for the android 2.1 update for droid and eris. it many not even be offered so there is no point in stress over it. if you read all the sites talking about this stuff say that it is all rumors.
I was really hoping for an update all day.. I knew it was rumored, but every rumor I have ever gotten excited for has come true, so i figured this would come true as well. =\ Grrr.
You guys are silly. Especially the know it alls that don’t know nothing. Thanks to the people with the correct info of no update
Wow, that makes me really mad. If they don’t keep this stuff up do date, I won’t get another android phone. Of course, I could just root it myself.
I just got off phone with Verizon tech support and they seemed to suggest that there are no plans in place for 2.1 to be released for Droid in the near future…
my guess is that android 2.1 will come to the moto droid when the nexus one hits Verizon stores in the spring of 2010
I saw on one of the websites that the update has been pushed back to late March for the Sprint HTC Hero UK version. It’s possible that may also appy to the US version.
People, you really should refrain from calling your local Verizon rep regarding software updates. Any person you could get ahold of by a number listed or given to you will not get you in contact with someone in the know. Verizon reps have no clue what goes into the innter workings of the devices they carry. My brother is a store manager for a SF location and he doesn’t know shit about these things. The best information the empirical power of the web has to offer is that the Droid will not receive an update until Google gives the green light for an OTA update. Until then everyone can speculate all they want but we aren’t getting a thing until its received by Verizon or we hack our phones and use the ported version from the Milestone. That is all.
