E Ink Vizplex Hits Casio and Hitachi Phones

Want to get your hands on the first clamshell phones with E Ink Vizplex Imaging Film? Well, you’ll have to hit up Casio and Hitachi. The electrophoretic display makes it so you can see the external screen in sunlight and at a 180 degree angle. It also allows the phone to remain extremely thin.

The current model is the Hitachi W61H and it features a 2.7″ screen that scrolls through several animated images when you receive a call, message or when the phone is opened. The Casio G’zOne model will launch soon, though as with the Hitachi, it will only be available in Japan.

Even so, the technology is interesting and makes for a unique look. And sometimes an individual visual style is all you need.
