While Apple are being sued, the eBook market is heating up. Barnes & Noble Inc. has launched a free electronic-reader application for the the RIM BlackBerry.

As screens on Blackberry’s get larger, the ability to read gets easier. William Lynch, president of Barnes&Noble.com says that “this move was prompted by consumer demand. Many of our Fictionwise customers own BlackBerrys, and we’ve been hearing from them.” Their calls will be answered this year.
“E-books are a nascent market,” said Mr. Lynch. “We think users will engage with this. We want to be there with the right application and content regardless of the device.” One estimate puts eBook sales toward the $100 million mark in 2008. Barnes & Noble, the country’s largest bookstore chain by revenue. The Company acquired Fictionwise for $15.7 million earlier this month. There is a huge base in the US for appropriate users so this option for the Blackberry owner, I’m sure will be very much appreciated.
