Music games are very popular on game consoles with Rock Band and Guitar Hero among the most popular titles of the genre. There have been a few rhythm games on mobile phones, but they haven’t for the most part had music that players would consider popular.

EpicTilt and Sony Music Entertainment have announced TapStar for the iPhone and iPod touch is now on the App Store. The rhythm game has music from popular Sony artists including Britney Spears, Cheap Trick, Cyndi Lauper, John Mayer, Los Lonely Boys, Sarah McLachlan, Three Days Grace, and P!nk.

The game lets players play along to the tracks and offers links to the iTunes store where players can buy tracks that the really like. The game takes advantage of the multi-touch user interface of the device and allows players to perform complex rhythmic patterns and promises good graphics. The app is available for download now.
