Feature phones sell more than twice as well as smartphones

Most mobile phone enthusiasts tend to focus more on smartphones than feature phones. The smartphone has all sorts of features like internet and more while the feature phone tends to be less complex and cheaper to buy.

Smartphone sales are growing at an impressive rate, but today the feature phone still holds the majority of the mobile phone market. Feature phones constitute 72% of all new handset sales. As impressive as that number is, it represents a decline of 5% compared to previous quarters.

Smartphones make up 28% of all mobile phone sales, and that percentage is growing. Overall handset sales volume in the U.S. grew 14% year over year for Q2 and sales revenue was up 18%. The average selling price for mobile phones was $87. The most popular feature phones were the LG enV2 and the Samsung Rant.
