Foxconn offers family of dead worker money with a yearly stipend

I talked last week about the sad story of a Foxconn employee in China who killed himself after losing a 4G iPhone prototype and allegedly being detained and abused over the loss of the device. The employee later jumped from the window of his apartment.

Reports have been coming in this week that Foxconn has offered the family of the man the equivalent of $44,000 in compensation and an Apple laptop. The offer was understandably not well received. Reports are now coming in that Foxconn has gone back and offered about $52,600 to the family plus a yearly stipend of about $4,385 per year until the die.

The offer is a rumor at this point and Foxconn has made no office statement on the subject. All I can say is that in this had happened in America the amount of the settlement would be many, many times that amount.
