It looks like a cross between an aluminium flight-case and a car radiator, but in actual fact this Fujitsu-made box is stuffed full of WiMAX loveliness and is just one of their latest base-stations for the long-range wireless data network. Fujitsu is launching three different models, each catering to different applications and having a choice of ranges; largest is the BroadOne WX300 with a radius of several kilometers, weighing 20kgs and having a volume of 20 litres - apparently the smallest outdoor macrocell base station on the market.

Also in the range are microcell and picocell models, with coverage radii measured in hundreds of meters and tens of meters respectively, and intended for rural and office applications. All units can be hardwired together to increase range and signal strength, and support the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands.
The Fujitsu range will be on the display at the Mobile World Congress, with the WX300 on sale from April.
