After the success of the Google Search homescreen plugin for S60 handsets - which Vincent described as making “a big difference” to handset usability - the search company has announced a similar app for Windows Mobile handsets.  As the screenshot indicates, the plugin adds a Google-labelled box just above the appointments pane, which works as a shortcut to running a search in the handset’s browser.

Google Search plugin for WM

Free from Google (although you may be charged data fees by your carrier for the actual download), it’s safe to assume that the WM version has the same default zip or postal code options for location-based queries, as well as the ability to swap between the ‘classic’ or ‘mobile’ versions of the results page.

You can try the plugin by visiting http://www.google.com/mobile/search/index.html and clicking “Get Started Now”.
