If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the very first Android-based handset, you’re in luck! The HTC Dream phone has just received FCC approval and that brings us one step closer to the rumored October release of the T-Mobile G1.

The phone is listed as type “Dream” with a model number of DREA100. And in case you’ve forgotten already, the HTC Dream is chock full of features including 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, GSM/SPRS/EDGE 850/1900 and WCDMA 1700 bands (a.k.a. 3G on T-Mobile). Needless to say, the “Dream” is pretty packed. What you might not know is the phone will also have a “jogball.” Those who’ve had a Sidekick or BlackBerry are familiar with this already.

We’ve come along way from calling it the “Googlephone.” And if all goes well, we’ll soon hear an announcement–like, September soon–of the first ever Android-based handset.
