Someone has managed to get their hands on the new HTC MAX by Yota and written up a quick review for us. Yota is a Russian WiMAX carrier with WiMAX service in Moskva. From what we are told, this handset is a “beefed up HTC Diamond†with a larger 3.8-inch screen.

The HTC MAX has 8GB of internal memory with available expansion via the microSD card slot. On top of having WiMAX this phone also offers Bluetooth, GPS, GSM EDGE and Wi-Fi connectivity. Aside from being very heavy and thick the HTC MAX is made up of a “suede like material†that eliminates the fingerprint problem as seen on the back of the HTC Diamond.
The box is reported to contain the same basic items that you would find in with the HTC Touch Pro. You get software installation disk, USB cable, charger, headset and 3.5mm headphone jack converter. The HTC MAX runs Windows Mobile 6.1 with Yota’s very own interface. The interface has three unknown options along the bottom of the screen, which are believed to be Catalogue, Applications and Task Manager. You can customize shortcuts but they are not widget based such as the ones found on Android.
Much like the Android Market for Android and the App Store for the iPhone, you can access application through Yota’s Catalogue. You also have access to Yota TV, Yota Music, Yota Video and Yota Yap Yap. Only Yota TV and Yap Yap require a subscription to access content.
Although the review did not get to cover the actual WiMAX service, we feel that those who are lucky enough to be able to use this handset will enjoy it. The large screen on the HTC MAX is the only HTC device that comes close to their Touch HD model. It looks like we will have to wait a while longer before we will be able to get a more in-depth review of the HTC MAX.
