Remember the HTC StarTrek?  Anticipation for the clamshell handset was huge - surely Windows Mobile couldn’t fit into something so compact?! - but since then there have been plenty of sexy smartphones to distract the eye.  Well, Erofich over at the XDA Developers Forum hasn’t let himself be distracted from his trusty StarTrek; he’s also not ignored the latest version of Windows Mobile, 6.1 Pro.  So what’s a guy to do?  Well, how about hacking handset and software to get the update running on the ageing HTC mobile.

WM 6.1 Pro on HTC StarTrek

HTC StarTrekIt’s no easy task, especially since WM6.1 Pro is intended for touchscreen smartphones and the StarTrek’s display, no matter how many times you prod it, is resolutely non-touchscreen.  So Erofich had to fathom out a cursor workaround, together with remapping the StarTrek’s buttons to suit.  Right now there are still a few glitches - notably in text entry - but it’s available for download all the same.
