Vincent spent some time with HTC Chief Innovations Officer Horace Luke yesterday, and got an overview of the Touch Diamond’s mobile internet capacity.  Of course, being Vincent he had his video camera to hand, so we’re sharing with you the highlights of the interview.  HTC have drafted in the very capable Opera 9 browser, rather than wait for the upcoming Windows Mobile Internet Explorer 6.1 from Microsoft.

Luke also discussed the new TouchFLO 3D GUI, HTC’s update to the original TouchFLO interface which first appeared on the original Touch smartphone.  It’s designed to insulate users as much as possible from coming into contact with Windows Mobile itself.  In fact, according to one HTC exec, “You wouldn’t even know this device was Windows Mobile.  You would just think it’s TouchFlow 3D.”

The first TouchFLO was criticised as being pretty much a shortcut menu.  Choosing many options kicked you out into WM and away from the glossy GUI.  If HTC can extend their new system throughout the smartphone’s functionality, they may actually have a winner on their hands.
