Mobilize is all about taking advantage of new technology to leverage what services can be offered, and when it comes to new mobile technology the buzzwords today are WiMAX and LTE.  In a fireside-chat this morning, Nortel’s John Roese discussed how the two upcoming high-speed standards would bring some of the data flexibility from hardwired cable and ADSL to mobile devices.

Asked about what he thought would be the “killer application” for high-speed mobile data, Roese suggested that in fact the overwhelming benefit was that there would need no differentiation between fixed and mobile broadband apps.  Any successful service offered to traditional broadband users would be just as applicable to mobile users, as they would have the network capacity to sustain it.  Developers, then, could concentrate on producing a platform-agnostic app, rather than creating multiple ports of software for different mobile devices that are necessary to work around the lack of bandwidth.

Roese also discusses the changing business model presented by the switch from 2G and existing 3G technologies.  We’ll be bringing you more footage and summary from Mobilize throughout the day, so stay with Phone Magazine!
