Reports and news items are popping up that those wanting more privacy and incredibly secure transmission of information prefer BlackBerry. This is apparently popular with naughty people, but not everyone is that naughty.

I’d like to think that I’m no all that bad. I do swear occasionally and probably say things I shouldn’t. I have and do send emails of a somewhat sensitive nature, mostly about work, clients or gossip such as ‘is that really what she is wearing?!?’. All of this possible thanks to the highly encrypted security of the Business Enterprise Server (BES) of the BlackBerry.
For a window into evidence that can then be used to bring criminals to justice mind you, the BES makes things interesting. For most other cell phones, police are able to listen in on the conversations of suspected criminals, but not the BlackBerry, as communications are done over a secure line. Rumor has it that legislators are working to loosen the shackles of encryption, making it easier to intercept communications. More so as users are able to tweak a BlackBerry to have almost military-grade encryption. In thinking about this, I panic enough about sending an email to the wrong person let alone someone intercepting it. I like the idea of privacy over the phone, I respect the need for the law to get involved although this would be best on a case-by-case basis, not every user just because of a few bad apples.
