Thanks to some nifty negotiations, PocketPCItalia (translated) have managed to get hold of i-mate’s big-chinned 6150 smartphone and its 8150 sibling for review.  Both Windows Mobile 6 Professional handsets received quite a bit of attention when they were announced last year, with opinions split over their relatively sombre appearance but plenty of salivation about the high-spec Marvell PXA270 520MHz processors and NVIDIA GoForce 5500 graphics.

“Overall, we can affirm the validity of these new products on the market at a price perhaps slightly high (€615 for 6150 and €630 for 8150) when compared with that of some competitors, but in the end justified by performance “speed” definitely excellent”PocketPCItalia (translated)

Thankfully, it seems both the 6150 and the 8150 live up to expectations.  Overly serious design is always easier to accept when it’s backed up with decent build quality, the handsets’ performance is strong, and while battery life was poorer than expected the devices were both using pre-release ROMs which, apparently, have been tweaked for the commercial release.

quite well…but navigational key on keypad surface doesn’t look good.

It may not look good, but I have one and it works brilliantly! It is very responsive, easy to use, and seems like an extension of your finger. It is exceptionally designed.
