IDC still expects mobile phone market to shrink in 2009

We already talked about the new report from Strategy Analytics on the mobile phone market for Q2. Another research firm has also published a report on the state of the mobile phone market. The other report is from analytics firm IDC.

IDC reports that the global market for mobile phones declined 10.8% from the same quarter a year before. Despite the decline compared to last year, Q2 was an improvement compared to the 17.2% decline in shipments in Q1.

IDC predicts that the global mobile phone market will decline 13% in 2009. The small signs of improvement in the market according to IDC is in high-end smartphones and other high-end handsets. The top five mobile phone vendors in global shipments are Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson.
