CoverFlow is one of those iPhone (and iPod Touch) features that seems under-utilised: yes, it works really well for browsing through audio, but why not menus and photos?  Happily the coders over at iPhoneDevDocs see situations like these as a challenge rather than a drawback, and so they’ve been whipping up some sample hacks where the CoverFlow app is used to display other things.  Layton Duncan, for instance, repurposed CoverFlow to scan the iPhone’s applications directory and present their icons in the familiar flick-browser.

Above is user Cobra’s photo browsing application, which presents images on the handset with the CoverFlow UI.

The code is all available for download, and it’ll be interesting to see what tweaks they eventually come up with.
