iPhone sales questionOur own Vincent Nguyen commented on it yesterday, and now a whole lot more people are asking exactly how AT&T and Apple’s iPhone sales figures add up.  After the carrier announced strong Q4 performance and total iPhone sales of two million, that has been contrasted with Apple’s claims to have sold 3.7 million handsets in total.  Sales in Europe - which have been quieter than expected - are believed to have amounted to between 300,000 and 400,000, leaving 1.3 million iPhones unaccounted.

Since it is unlikely that so many have been unlocked and are being used without AT&T or one of the other official carriers, analysts believe that a large stockpile of unsold handsets is being carried by the operators.

Apple and AT&T are yet to comment on the situation.
