According to figures released by Google, iPhone users are accessing the search engine 50 times more frequently than owners of any other handset, resulting in mobile revenues growing “above expectations” in both usage and turnover.
“We thought it was a mistake and made our engineers check the logs again” Vic Gundotra, head of mobile operations, Google
Analysts have credited the iPhone’s innovative mobile Safari browser, seamless EDGE to WiFi handover and AT&T’s unlimited browsing package as contributing to the figures.
Of course, no story like this is complete without a semi-ridiculous prediction, and this one comes from Google’s own Vic Gundotra. He’s quoted as saying that, if this trend continues and other manufacturers make internet access on a cellphone as easy as it is on the iPhone, mobile searches will overtake fixed internet searches “within the next several years”.
