Voice-recognition and transcription specialists Jott have just announced their latest beta for BlackBerry smartphones, allowing users to dictate replies to emails rather than use the thumb keyboard.  Compatible with the BlackBerry 8800, 8300 and 8100 series handsets, the app adds a “reply with Jott” option to all new emails which lets you speak your message either directly to the smartphone itself, or via a Bluetooth headset.

Jott claim it makes replying to emails 3-5 times faster than typing by hand, and also opens up the possibility of managing your inbox while driving (which seems like a whole heap of trouble to me).  Currently a free beta, Jott will be charging for the eventual release though there’s no indication of when that might be, nor how much they’ll want.

Using Mobivox’s “Send Message” you can dictate emails or sms without downloading any applications. All you have to do is register as a Mobivox user (which is free) and add contacts to your address book. Mobivox also makes your first five sent messages free…I’ve used the service and it works well. I’ve included the hyperlink to Mobivox’s product page (http://www.mobivox.com/features/#g).
