After Sony Ericsson declined to be drawn into bidding for ailing Motorola (and seriously guys, with today’s brace of lacklustre cellphones I’m not surprised you’re hurting), it’s now the turn of Korean manufacturer LG to turn their nose up at the US company. Despite Motorola’s number-one position in the US handset charts, the lure of a quick rank leap was obviously not enough to tempt LG.

Instead, LG are confident that they will ship 100 million handsets in 2008 off their own back, and predicted that more than half of new cellphones would have iPhone-like touchscreens within the next couple of years. Although Ahn denied that a sub-$25 handset was on the cards, he confirmed that LG is looking at developing into emerging cellphone markets.
