Recently released FCC approval documents have confirmed the existence of LG’s latest Viewty cellphone; however unlike the existing KU990 handset, which has 3G HSDPA along with its lauded 5-megapixel camera, the new KE990 will have merely dualband (850/900) GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity.  Three versions of the cut-down cameraphone will be made, differentiated by their suffix: the KE990, the KE990c and the KE990d.

The suggestion is that the KE990 will be for T-Mobile USA while the ‘c’ version will go to China.  Reducing the data capabilities of the Viewty will have a knock-on effect on the price, making it a more affordable option, as well as the complexity of the build process for LG.  However, it will disappoint anybody hoping for WiFi and/or GPS to be introduced into the Viewty range.
