During a promotional event for the new Transformers Movie, it’s not really clear who has more egg on their face. Through an impromptu few words during a press conference, Michael Bay put his foot in it.

During the recent CTIA, LG was in promotion mode in conjunction with Dreamworks SKG and Michael Bay of their collaboration around the new Transformers Revenge Movie. Bay was in town for an awards show and stepped up to say a few words. Jokingly said, “I have some big news: I’ve just been named the next CEO of LG…” After a few giggles, mentioned that he knew nothing of mobile phones and his was only a $39 Samsung.
LG president of mobile products Juno Cho tried to salvage the moment by offering Bay his personal phone saying, “now you have an LG phone.” Bay responded saying “but all my contacts are in the other one.” With the war of the Autobots looming another may start with the branding of phones through the movie. Although Bay’s comments are a real thorn in the side of LG, can we be human in knowing that ‘people’ still want phones that are just a phone? Does it all have to be about marketing airtime? Was it an honest mistake? I think the real point is lost that the next transformers movie is coming!!
