Google’s wonder platform took a huge step today in becoming closer to release. Today, at Google’s IO event, they unveiled a ton of information for the new platform. Android was demoed at the event, and our own Vincent was there to capture the action. This thing is amazing, the interface is totally original and rivals anything that I have ever seen.

From right when you turn the screen on, the device instantly shows off how unique it is. When unlocking the device, you use a pattern as a unlock code, instead of an alphanumeric code. Immediately after that, you are dropped into a home screen, that has clearly had immense work done to make it user friendly. Everything is front and center, easy to find.

Even though it is new, the home screen looks like it could be just about anything. Well, that is where that status bar comes in. It is a lot more than just a status bar. You drag the status bar down, to reveal all things going on in your device. New text messages, calender appointments, everything is easy to monitor from this screen.

If the home screen ends up boring you, then just flick it away. That’s right, you flick the screen, and the next section of the home screen comes up. In the demo, it opens a widgets screen. In the demo, the clock and Google search box is seen. If none of these screens are for you, then flick to a blank screen, to enjoy your wallpaper.

The browser is similar to the Safari browser on the iPhone, as they are both WebKit based. In the demo, the Google home page that came up was the one optimized for Apple’s Safari browser on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The interface is similar, but one key difference is you can magnify portions of the page before you zoom in.
