MetroPCS has just launched a new caller ID service in the US called Screen-It, which works by showing whoever is calling you on your mobile phone. This makes it so you can better moderate your incoming calls, thereby not wasting your precious minutes.

The particularly cool thing is that the service will make an attempt to identify who’s calling you by name, even if they are an unknown caller. Pretty neat.

MetroPCS says this move is a “core part” of their “landline replacement strategy.” The company also takes pride in being the first company to offer this service on cell phones, in an attempt to make mobile devices sufficiently more like landline phones. MetroPCS customers can expect this service sometime in October.
